Börsenlexikon: Value paper
A security is a document to which a right is attached in such a way that it cannot be enforced or transferred to others without the document. For example, you cannot attend a company's general meeting without showing the company's shares, although nowadays it is no longer necessary to effectively bring the securities with you. A confirmation from the company that the securities are held in custody and in your possession is sufficient.
Examples of securities are:
- Shares - Share certificates - Bonds and other interest bearing securities - Derivatives - Certificates - Cheques.
