Börsenlexikon: YTD

Year-to-date (YTD) in finance refers to the period of time from the beginning of the year to the current date. A fiscal year usually starts on January 1, whereas the start of a fiscal year can vary depending on the business or organization. YTD can be used in many contexts, but mainly to represent results of an activity in a period between a date and the beginning of the fiscal or financial year. In a financial context, YTD is used to show the success or performance of a business unit in its financial statements. By showing the current YTD, owners, managers and stakeholders are able to compare the current performance of the business with that of previous periods. Example: The YTD return of a stock is 7%. This means that the stock price has increased 7% since January 1 to date.
