Börsenlexikon: Nominal value (par value)

The nominal value (par value) is the nominal value of a security, for example a share and/or a bond. In the case of a share, the nominal value is the proportion of the company's share capital. The price of a share and thus its current value is independent of the nominal value. The nominal value of all shares corresponds to the total share capital at the time of issue, i.e. when the shares are issued.
