In the broader sense, cross-border temporary cooperation between independent companies (joint venturing); in the narrower sense, the formation of international joint ventures (joint ownership ventures). Joint ventures can be agreed on a project basis for production, sales or research; however, joint ventures are often used to pursue long-term strategic corporate goals (direct investment).
