Börsenlexikon: Eurobond

Eurobonds are bonds of medium and longer maturity placed for the international capital market (Euromarket) and issued by a country other than the country of origin of the currency in which they are issued. The term Eurobond has no connection with the common European currency, the euro. They are usually issued in the form of bearer bonds by international banking syndicates; the dominant bond currencies are the US dollar, the yen, the Swiss franc, the pound sterling and the euro. Borrowers are private companies with high credit ratings, sovereigns and public corporations as well as supranational institutions. Eurobonds include both conventional and floating-rate bonds, zero-coupon bonds, dual-currency bonds and convertible bonds.
