Issuers are institutions which, for the purpose of raising capital, issue securities or similar instruments on the money or capital markets or have them issued with the help of a syndicate of banks. For the issuers, the issue serves to raise or increase equity or debt capital and to increase market capitalisation. The process of issuing securities is called issuance. In raising equity capital, shares are issued while debt capital is raised by issuing debentures. Shares and bonds are traded on the capital market, profit participation certificates and convertible bonds as an intermediate form between equity and debt are also traded on the capital market. Commercial papers or medium-term notes as short- to medium-term loan securitizations are traded on the money market.
