Börsenlexikon: Chartanalysis

Chart analysis describes various methods of analyzing historical price developments. It can be used to determine favourable buying and selling times or to predict future price developments.

In contrast to fundamental analysis, key figures from classical macroeconomics, sector analyses or business management are not taken into account. Instead, chart analysis assumes that all decision-relevant information about the past and future is already contained in the visible price trend - the chart.

Chart analysis is often equated with technical analysis, which can, however, contain additional procedures of market technical analysis and thus goes beyond the pure examination of price trends.
