What is the story behind the recent meeting between BHP Group CEO Mike Henry and South African government representatives? Is a new bid for the commodities group ANGLO AMERICAN imminent? We tend to think so and the takeover price could or should be well within the range of our target price! The London Financial Times reported last Wednesday, citing three people who are said to be familiar with the details, that CEO (Chief Executive Officer) Mike Henry and CDO (Chief Development Officer) Catherine Raw have met with government representatives and the state asset manager Public Investment Corp. in South Africa; Public Investment is, after all, ANGLO AMERICAN's second largest shareholder. In our opinion, it is classically obvious that the BHP "delegation" wanted to take the clear pulse! Can the BHP Group get the major shareholder on its side? If so, at what price? And what is the position of the South African government? Bankers who want to/would take on an advisory or financing role in a potential deal have said that a standstill period between the companies should end on November 29, 2024. There is certainly a lot going on "behind the scenes" at the moment, so it is possible that the deal will be "ready" from the aforementioned date. For the time being, it is only speculation, but it is very possible that a new offer will follow shortly! With or without a takeover bid, it makes sense - for all those who are not yet invested here - to jump on the bandwagon or to take advantage of the interesting price level for a purchase (up to around GBP 25). Perhaps a "quick" profit can be realized here soon!
But the ANGLO AMERICAN share is also extremely interesting "on the long run"! On the one hand, the commodity cycle is hardly slowing down and, on the other, the Group is well positioned. We are very excited about the coming weeks. Target price: GBP 31.50!
ANGLO AMERICAN: Rumor mill "simmering"!
